Memorial Day weekend, only a few days away, is a time for Americans to once again celebrate freedom and honor the servicemen and women who have paid for the freedoms we continue to enjoy and cherish. It’s also the unofficial start of summer, and for many kids in Lebanon, Mt. Juliet and surrounding communities, getting out of town for three days with parents after being cooped up at school for the past nine months provides some sweet relief.

At Benson Orthodontics, we know Memorial Day weekend is also ripe for travel. Because it's so close to summer, a season full of vacations, adventures and great memories awaits. What about you? What are you up to this Memorial Day weekend? What will you be doing on your day off from school or work?

Whether you are headed to a barbecue, a camping trip, or hitting the road with family, we’d love to hear all about it! Enjoy the long weekend if we won't see you until next week!

Benson Orthodontics, encouraging you to enter the AAO's video scholarship contest!

Dr. Benson and team have some exciting news to share! The American Association of Orthodontists, which Dr. Benson is a member of, is offering a $2,500 academic scholarship to two lucky winners of their "How Orthodontics Changed My Life" video contest.

All patients at Benson Orthodontics 18 years of age or younger are eligible to enter, and entries are due by June 1st! You can learn more about the contest on the AAO's web site, but here are a few subjects to think about while making your short video:

• What were you like before you had orthodontic treatment at Benson Orthodontics? How have you changed?
• How proud are you of your new smile?
• When did you notice changes in yourself? What kinds of changes have you noticed?
• What does your new smile mean to you?
• What would you say to others whose smiles make them self-conscious?

Dr. Benson and team know that Mother's Day - which falls on this coming Sunday, May 9 - is special to each and every one of us. Everybody looks forward to Mother's Day to let our mom know how special she is to us. The day is observed by giving gifts, visiting our moms or taking them out to celebrate.
